MINNEAPOLIS (9/15/07) -- Outshooting its opponents by a 33-1 margin, the Augsburg College men's soccer team claimed a 2-0 victory over visiting Buena Vista University in a nonconference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

Kelsey Duerr (So., Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) and Nick Anderson (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored goals for the Auggies, now 5-2-0 on the season.

Duerr scored on a long-ball feed from James See (Jr., Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels HS) in the 42nd minute, and Anderson scored on a one-timer from a feed from the left side by Jake Lor (So., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) in the 54th minute.

Augsburg outshot Buena Vista (1-4-1 overall) by a 19-0 margin in the first half and a 14-1 margin in the second half. The Auggies also had 14 corner kicks, while not allowing a Beaver corner kick in the contest. In all, 23 Auggies saw playing time in the game, with 14 recording shots.

"David Long (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels HS) played his best game in an Augsburg uniform. He made great decisions with and without the ball and put himself into a position to see more time," said Augsburg head coach Greg Holker. "Kelsey Duerr helped us today and continues to be one of our steadiest players. Jake Lor controlled the game in the second half when he was on the field, and Mac Miller (So., Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) was strong in the center of the back once again."

Buena Vista goalie Phillip Wolfe (Fr., Edina, Minn./Hopkins HS) made seven saves in the game. The Beavers' lone shot came from Dominik Harris (So., Ham Lake, Minn./Andover HS) in the 53rd minute.

Augsburg goalkeeper Evan Fuhs (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) did not have to make a save for his fourth collegiate shutout and second in a row.

"This game served its purpose. We improved on some of the issues we have focused on in training, and we were able to play everybody and keep our first guys fresh," Holker said. "Unfortunately, we are struggling in front of goal, and must find ways to get our efforts on frame. More important, we have to be more efficient with our big men on set plays. Right now we are something like 1-for-56 on corner kicks. That is astounding, considering the talented players we have in the air."

Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (9/19) at 7:30 p.m., with a home game against Hamline at Edor Nelson Field. Buena Vista concludes its weekend trip to the Twin Cities with a game at Hamline on Sunday (9/16) at 1 p.m.

"Hamline is our focus now. They are dangerous and very capable of scoring goals. They may be a young team, but they have talent and a great coach who will have them running on all cylinders when they come here," Holker said. "With Carleton's win over St. John's today, the conference is already looking jumbled and Wednesday's points are extremely important for each team."
