CHANDLER, Ariz. (3/22/08) -- Bryan Ludwig (SR, Woodbury, Minn.) drove in five runs on 3-of-4 hitting with a double in the second game, Craig Henry (SO, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) claimed a double and triple while scoring two runs, and Derek Williamson (SO, St. Francis, Minn.) drove in two runs on two doubles in the first game, as the Augsburg College baseball team closed its week of games at the Greater Phoenix Invitational with a doubleheader sweep of Roger Williams University (R.I.) on Saturday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
Augsburg (8-8 overall) won the first game 4-3 and scored a 7-2 win in the second game over Roger Williams (7-5 overall). Augsburg went 6-4 in its week of games in Arizona.
After giving up two runs in the second inning, Augsburg scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead, keyed on a two-run double by Williamson and a run-scoring single by Donald Blunt (FY, Richfield, Minn.). Augsburg added another run in the fifth on an RBI triple by Eric Olson * (SO, New Prague, Minn.). Williamson and Blunt each went 2-for-3 for the Auggies.
Brian Olson (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) picked up the pitching win in relief of starter Sam Weber (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS), who struck out six while walking three in 4.1 innings of work. Adam Jacobsen (FY, Wayzata, Minn./Orono HS) scored his second save of the season.
In the second game, starter Jon-Eric Urseth (JR, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) picked up the victory, striking out three while walking three in six innings of work. He allowed 10 hits, but Roger Williams stranded 11 runners on base in the game.
Ludwig connected on an RBI single in the first inning, cleared the bases on a three-run double in the third inning and drove in a run on an RBI single in the seventh inning for his five-RBI day. Meanwhile, Rick Andersen (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and another run came across in the fifth, as Henry tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday (3/28) at 11 a.m., hosting St. Mary's in a doubleheader at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
