ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (4/16/08) -- Rick Andersen (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and David Rasmussen (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had three hits apiece in the doubleheader, leading the Augsburg College baseball team to a split with host Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference twinbill on Wednesday afternoon at Hargis Park. Bethel (12-12 overall, 2-5 MIAC) rallied to win the first game 4-3, while Augsburg (14-12 overall, 6-4 MIAC) won the second game 5-2.
Andersen went 2-for-3 with a double in the first game, and drove in two runs with a hit in the second game. Rasmussen had two hits and an RBI in the first game. Mike Zaun * (SR, Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) also contributed to the Auggie attack, hitting a two-run homer in the second game.
Cole Oosterhuis (FY, White Bear Lake, Minn.) claimed his first collegiate victory on the mound for the Auggies in the second game, striking out six while walking one in 4.1 innings of work. Brian Olson (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) struck out two while pitching 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to score his fourth save of the year.
Augsburg scored a run in the second inning on an RBI grounder by Craig Henry (SO, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), and added three runs in the third on a sacrifice fly by Andersen and Zaun's two-run homer. Andersen's second sacrifice fly of the game drove in the final Auggie run of the game in the seventh. Bethel scored twice in the fifth, as Bob Tokar hit a run-scoring double and Tim Churchill drove in a run on a groundout.
In the first game, Augsburg built a 3-0, third-inning lead, but Bethel rallied with two runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the fifth. Bethel pitcher Travis Adams struck out seven while walking in six innings of work to score the win, with Ben Turnwall striking out two in the seventh to earn the save.
Augsburg starter Alex Glasenapp (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) took the loss, striking out two in 4.2 innings of work. Just two of the four runs charged to him were earned. Rasmussen, Andersen and Olson had two hits apiece for the Auggies in the contest.
Both teams have road doubleheaders on Saturday (4/19) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg in nonconference action at Cornell (Iowa) and Bethel in league action at Carleton.
