Augsburg swept by St. John's, falling 14-8 and 15-7.

MINNEAPOLIS (4/22/08) -- Briak Skluzacek (FY, Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori HS) hit 5-for-6 with a double and home run, and John Heinbigner (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) went 6-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, leading the St. John's University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Augsburg College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Parade Stadium. The Johnnies won by scores of 14-8 and 15-7.

Skluzacek drove in three runs and scored five runs himself on 4-of-4 hitting in the first game and 1-of-2 hitting in the second game, while Heinbigner went 3-for-4 in the first game and 3-for-5 in the second game, scoring four runs and driving in four for the Johnnies (11-14 overall, 5-7 MIAC).

Augsburg (14-14 overall, 6-6 MIAC) was paced by Brian Olson (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) and Jeff Stomberg * (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), who each went 5-for-8 at the plate in the doubleheader. Olson scored four runs, and Stomberg scored two runs and drove in three.

Big innings proved to be the difference in each game. In the first contest, St. John's scored four runs in the second inning, three runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth -- sending 11 batters to the plate in the fourth inning. In the second game, the Johnnies scored six runs in the second inning, sending 11 batters to the plate, while fending off a five-run Augsburg bottom of the second, as the Auggies sent 10 batters to the plate. St. John's also took advantage of 10 Augsburg errors -- four in the first game, six in the second -- as 15 of the 29 runs the Johnnies scored were unearned against eight Augsburg pitchers.

Kyle Henkemeyer (FY, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) drove in five runs for the Johnnies in the second game with two hits, including a three-run double. Ryan Sufka (SR, St. Joseph, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) had four hits, driving in three runs while scoring four.

For Augsburg, Mark Pederson (SR, Lexington, Minn./Centennial HS) went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in the doubleheader, while Craig Henry (SO, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) collected three hits. Donald Blunt (FY, Richfield, Minn.) hit his first collegiate home run and drove in four runs in the doubleheader, while Al Davis (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) drove in three runs on the day.

Both teams return to MIAC action with rescheduled doubleheaders on Wednesday (4/23) at 2:30 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Hamline and St. John's hosting Macalester.
