MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/10/08) -- Maggie DeGroot (SR, Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) claimed her school-record 30th career shutout in goal with a seven-save effort, as her Augsburg College women's soccer team opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a scoreless tie in two overtimes against host Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday afternoon at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.

DeGroot has claimed shutouts in four of her five starts this season for Augsburg (3-1-1 overall, 0-0-1 MIAC), with a 0.39 goals-against-average to her credit. Britt Reiersgord collected 11 saves in goal for Concordia (3-0-2 overall, 0-0-1 MIAC), which outshot Augsburg by a 16-13 margin, including a 5-1 edge in the 20 minutes of overtime. Both teams had four corner kicks in the game.

"I was pleased with our effort," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Certainly we had a our chances to score, hitting two posts and a crossbar. But Concordia is a great team and keeping them scoreless was also a mighty task. In the end, it was a great game and we both deserved a hard-earned point for the tie."

DeGroot made one save in the overtime, while another Concordia shot hit the crossbar. Reiersgord collected a save on a header by Lacey Hoover (SO, Duluth, Minn./Central HS) early in the second overtime. Forwards Hoover and Katie Medd (SR, Mankato, Minn./East HS) had four shots each to lead the Auggies.

Augsburg is in the second game of a three-game stretch of road contests against teams that qualified for the NCAA Division III national tournament last season. The final game of the string comes on Saturday (9/13) at 3 p.m., when the Auggies have a nonconference contest at St. Scholastica.

"Now we focus on another tough opponent, St. Scholastica, which also won their conference last year," Navarre said. "We are playing well right now and I know the team is excited for Saturday."
