GAME BOXSCORE | AUGSBURG SEASON STATISTICS
RIVER FALLS, Wis. (9/3/08) -- Bri Clark (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) scored her first-collegiate goal with 3:05 remaining in the game, giving Augsburg College a 1-0 victory over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in a nonconference women's soccer game on Wednesday afternoon at UW-RF's Ramer Field.
Clark scored the game-winner in the 87th minute off an assist from Katie Medd (SR, Mankato, Minn./East HS), lifting Augsburg to its third straight victory -- all by 1-0 decisions.
"I was excited for Bri. It was a great way to get her first collegiate goal," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Katie Medd played a great ball to get her behind the defense in the closing minutes and Bri finished it well."
Augsburg goalkeeper Maggie DeGroot (SR, Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) claimed her school-record 29th shutout of her career and her 30th career victory. Beth Petrik claimed 34 victories in her career (1995-98), while Laura Hoffman (2000-03) holds the career record with 35 wins in goal. DeGroot now has a 198-minute, 44-second shutout streak in goal, dating to last season's final game.
"This was a good win for us. I felt we played well today," Navarre said. "I knew in order to beat River Falls, we would have to play better than we did last weekend. The players responded to the challenge well, earning a tough road victory."
Emily Stieler collected five saves in a losing effort for Wisconsin-River Falls. The Auggies claimed a 15-10 advantage in shots in the contest, and added five corner kicks to the Falcons' two.
The road trip continues for Augsburg with three more games -- all against teams that qualified for the NCAA Division III national tournament last season. The next road game comes on Saturday at p.m., with a contest at No. 16-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Games against Concordia-Moorhead and St. Scholastica follow on the road swing.
"Now we have to play three games on the road against teams in that qualified for the national tournament last year, starting with an Eau Claire team that just beat Trinity (Texas), one of the best teams in the nation," Navarre said. "We have our work cut out for us, but we are excited."
