MINNEAPOLIS -- Marcus Brumm (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Mike Nourie (SR, Nicollet, Minn.) with 46 seconds to play in the game, lifting the Augsburg College football team to a 28-21 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Brumm completed 25-of-49 passing for 334 yards and three touchdowns, including two scoring passes to Nourie, in leading the Auggies (4-3 overall, 3-2 MIAC) to the win. Nourie caught nine passes for 129 yards to lead the Auggies.

Despite having the ball for just 8:54 in the entire second half, the Auggies were able to rally with a quick drive for the win. Trailing 21-20 with 1:45 left, Brumm led the Auggies on a nine-play, 75-yard drive for the deciding score, completing six of eight passes for 70 yards -- including four passes to Nourie for 50 yards. Brumm then threw a two-point conversion pass to Muneer Al-Hameed (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn HS) to complete the scoring.

After the go-ahead score, John Hibbs (JR, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) intercepted a pass by Gustavus (3-4 overall, 2-3 MIAC) quarterback Jordan Becker (SR, Easton, Minn.) with 34 seconds left to seal the victory.

The Auggie offense put together 410 yards of total offense, while Gustavus had 392 yards of offense. The Gusties dominated time of possession, with 34:41 to Augsburg's 25:19 -- including an advantage of 12:43-to-2:17 in the third quarter.

In addition to Nourie's 129 receiving yards, Al-Hameed caught six passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. Brumm rushed for 44 yards on 15 carries, while Waylon Hartwick (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown.

For Gustavus, Kendrick Hall (FY, Minneapolis, Minn.) rushed for 155 yards on 21 carries, including a 77-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Elliott Herdina (SO, Blooming Prairie, Minn.) caught three passes for 60 yards, and Blake Noennig (SR, Norwood-Young America, Minn.) caught three passes for 46 yards.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, with four lead changes. Augsburg opened the scoring with a seven-play, 70-yard march on its opening drive, completed on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Brumm to Al-Hameed.

The Gusties took the lead midway through the quarter, as Becker scored on an eight-yard keeper, capping a nine-play, 68-yard drive. After holding the Auggies to a three-and-out, the Gusties struck again quickly, as Hall rushed for 77 yards for a touchdown, giving the Gusties a 14-6 lead with 3:46 left in the opening frame.

In the second quarter, Augsburg rallied back, with a nine-play, 80-yard drive capped by a Hartwick two-yard scoring run, and after a 46-yard interception return by Mark Goers (SR, Jefferson, Wis./Lake Mills HS) with 30 seconds left in the first half, Augsburg scored three plays later, on Brumm's eight-yard touchdown strike to Nourie.

Taking possession in the third quarter, Gustavus took nearly half of the time in the frame to score and take the lead, as a 12-play, 61-yard drive covered 7:12, and was capped when Becker threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Muresuk Mena (FY, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.). Hall rushed seven times for 29 yards in the drive.

Augsburg had a chance to take the lead in the fourth quarter on a 10-play, 65-yard drive, but the drive stalled on downs at the Gustavus 23-yard line, giving the Gusties the ball back with 3:46 left. However, a Gustavus drive stalled at their own 42-yard line, and a punt gave the Auggies the ball back at their own 25-yard line with 1:45 left, setting the stage for the game-winning drive.

Defensively, three Auggies had double-digit totals in tackles, including the MIAC's leading tackler, linebacker Adam Mead (JR, St. Francis, Minn.), who had 13 tackles (six solo), including one for loss. Mead is the lone player in the MIAC to average double-digit tackle totals per-game. Linebacker Adam Ebert (Sr, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) had 14 tackles (three solo), and Dane Bates (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) had 12 tackles. Andrew Bergeson (SR, Red Wing, Minn.) had nine tackles (two solo).

For Gustavus, Joe Welch (SR, Hastings, Minn.) and Zach Lundquist (JR, Pelican Rapids, Minn.) had seven tackles apiece, with Welch recording two tackles-for-loss and Lundquist recording a sack. Dustin Kammerer (JR, Watertown, Minn.) had six tackles. Mike Mohs (JR, Andover, Minn.) had a 46-yard interception in the second quarter for the Gusties.

Both teams return to action next Saturday (10/31) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg playing at St. Thomas and Gustavus hosting Bethel.
