MINNEAPOLIS -- Quarterbacks Marcus Brumm (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) for Augsburg College and Adam Meyer (SO, Cold Spring, Minn.) for Hamline University combined for more than 700 passing yards on Saturday, as Hamline claimed a 38-28 win over Augsburg in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Meyer completed 20-of-29 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns for Hamline (2-2 overall, 1-2 MIAC), which captured "The Hammer" trophy, the traveling trophy between the two teams, for the first time in its five-year existence.

Meanwhile, Brumm completed 25-of-46 passing for three touchdowns for Augsburg (1-3 overall, 0-2 MIAC), which saw its six-game winning streak over the Pipers snapped. Augsburg has won 12 of the last 14 meetings between the two schools.

Hamline built a 24-7 third-quarter lead before Augsburg mounted a late comeback. The Pipers' big lead included two long pass plays -- a 75-yard scoring pass from Meyer to Alex House (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) and an 80-yard scoring pass from Meyer to Tim Queck (SO, Annandale, Minn.) on consecutive drives in the second quarter. Queck ended up with seven receptions for 184 yards to lead all players, while House caught six passes for 117 yards.

Augsburg also had two receivers go over the century mark in yardage -- Muneer Al-Hameed (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn HS) caught 13 passes for 176 yards, while Mike Nourie (SR, Nicollet, Minn.) caught seven passes for 134 yards.

Augsburg mounted a second-half comeback, starting when offensive lineman Josh Corrigan (SR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) recovered a fumble in the end zone at the 6:23 mark of the third quarter. Hamline put the ball in the end zone again, however, as Meyer threw an 11-yard scoring strike to Ben Chandler (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS) to put the Pipers ahead 31-13.

The Auggies trimmed the lead to just three points, as Nourie caught a 45-yard scoring strike from Brumm late in the third quarter, and Al-Hameed completed a 13-play, 70-yard drive with a 14-yard touchdown catch from Brumm early in the fourth quarter, making the score 31-28. But Hamline closed the door on any further Auggie comeback, as backup quarterback Connor Sathre (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) scored on a one-yard plunge with 6:32 left, capping a nine-play, 67-yard drive.

Defensively, Cody Kielsa (FY, Buffalo, Minn./Rogers HS) had a big day for the Pipers, with nine tackles (seven solo) and six pass breakups. Justin Bain (JR, Spring Valley, Minn./Grand View HS) had seven tackles (five solo).

For Augsburg, Adam Mead (JR, St. Francis, Minn.) had 12 tackles (three solo), including two for loss, while Andrew Bergeson (SR, Red Wing, Minn.) had 10 tackles (three solo), and Adam Ebert (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and John Hibbs (JR, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) had nine tackles apiece.

Both teams return to MIAC play next Saturday (10/10) at 1 p.m., as Augsburg hosts Carleton and Hamline hosts St. John's.
