MINNEAPOLIS (2/28/09) -- Brian Olson (SR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) doubled and scored on a single by Mason Holmquist (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) in the bottom of the 11th inning, giving Augsburg College a 4-3 victory over Edgewood College (Wis.) in a nonconference baseball game late Saturday night at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

Holmquist ended up 2-for-4 at the plate for the Auggies, in their first game of the 2009 season. Donald Blunt (SO, Richfield, Minn.) hit a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Craig Henry (JR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) in the sixth inning, one of two runs driven in by Henry in the game.

The game was the first of a scheduled doubleheader, but the second game was halted due to time constraints at the Metrodome. Edgewood (1-2 overall) was leading Augsburg 10-3 after four innings when the game was halted at 3:06 a.m. According to NCAA rules, because the second game was halted due to time constraints, it will not be counted in standings, nor will statistics be counted.

Leadoff hitter Brent Kolbow (FY, Forest Lake, Minn.), making his collegiate debut, went 2-for-5 with a double for the Auggies.

Augsburg trailed 1-0 after four innings, as the Eagles took advantage of two Augsburg errors to score an unearned run. But the Auggies tied the game in the sixth, as Blunt hit a leadoff triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Henry.

Edgewood took the lead in the top of the ninth, as Steven Binder drove in Alex Berta on a single, but the Auggies tied the game again in the bottom of the inning, as pinch runner Matt Santiago (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) scored on a single by Eric Olson (JR, New Prague, Minn.).

In the 10th, the Eagles scored again, but the Auggies answered back on a bases-loaded walk. Augsburg had the bases loaded with one out, but lined into an inning-ending double play.

Edgewood had a runner reach second base in the 11th, but reliever Mark Heise (JR, Foley, Minn.), making his Auggie debut, got the home team out of the inning by forcing a foul out and a grounder, setting the stage for the Auggies' game-winning rally in the bottom of the 11th.

Kristofer Ozga (SO, Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson HS), making his Augsburg debut, struck out four while walking four in six innings of work. Alex Gustafson (SR, Anoka, Minn.) struck out two in three innings of relief, and Heise struck out one in two innings of work to pick up the win.

Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday (3/3) at 7:30 a.m., with a doubleheader against Dickinson State (N.D.) at the Metrodome.
