ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- Pounding out 17 hits and using a six-run seventh inning to pull ahead, the Augsburg College baseball team scored a 13-10 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Superior in a nonconference baseball game on Tuesday afternoon at Northwestern College's Reynolds Field.
Donald Blunt (SO, Richfield, Minn.) hit a home run and a double in going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI for Augsburg (14-14 overall), while
Joe Pierce (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) also went 3-for-5 with a run scored.
Tim Gerding (FY, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) went 2-for-5 with three RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases, and
Shea Sajevic (JR, Hastings, Minn.) went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two driven in.
For Wisconsin-Superior (8-15 overall), Sean Cummings (JR, Superior, Wis.) went 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs and five RBI, including a grand-slam homer in the seventh inning. Matt Kohn (SR, St. Charles, Minn.) also hit two home runs and drove in four runs in the game, while Paul Schlangen (JR, Rice, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double.
The Yellowjackets broke open a close game with a four-run seventh inning to take a 9-4 lead, thanks to Cummings' grand slam. But Augsburg sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, taking a lead it would not relinquish.
Bryant Nordby (SO, Brownton, Minn./McLeod West HS) hit a two-run homer early in the inning, and later, the Auggies scored runs on a two-run single by Gerding and run-scoring singles by Sajevic and
James Panning (SR, Gibbon, Minn./Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS).
Augsburg clinched the win with a three-run eighth inning, as Sajevic hit a run-scoring double and
Taylor Legeros (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Edina HS) drove in a run on an infield single.

Marshall Nelson (SO, Albertville, Minn./West Lutheran HS) struck out three in five innings of work, with three pitchers throwing in relief --
Brett Cloutier (SO, Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) struck out three in 1.1 innings of work,
Brian Olson (SR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) was credited with the win with 1.2 innings and two strikeouts, and
Jeff Boresz (FY, Chardon, Ohio/Mentor HS) struck out three in the ninth, despite giving up a solo homer.
Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (4/15) at 2:30 p.m., hosting Bethel in a doubleheader. The games will be played at Bethel's home field, with Augsburg as the home team, due to scheduling conflicts at Augsburg's home park, Parade Stadium.
