BOXSCORE
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A header for the game-winning goal with two minutes to play in the second half lifted the University of St. Thomas to a 2-1 win over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at UST.
Courtney Barthel (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) scored the line goal of the game for Augsburg (1-3-2 overall, 0-2-0 MIAC) on an unassisted tally in the 58th minute. But St. Thomas got a goal from Regina Horak, who headed in a cross from Lexie Fisher, in the 88th minute for the win. UST's other goal came in the 11th minute, as Erin Sprangers scored from Horak.
"Today's loss was tough to take," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre. "I thought we scored a legitimate goal to go up 2-1 in the second half, but unfortunately the referee saw it another way. We did a poor job of tracking and St. Thomas had a good finish off a cross with two minutes left."
Augsburg goalkeeper
Diana Bocklund (FY, Mahtomedi, Minn.) had eight saves in goal. St. Thomas had 10 shots on goal to Augsburg's four, and had nine corner kicks to Augsburg's three.
Augsburg travels to face Northwestern-Roseville in a nonconference contest on Tuesday (9/22) at 5 p.m.
"Our team is good, but we are not getting results right now," Navarre said. "I expect this to turn around soon. We have too much talent and determination for this to continue."
