Auggies finish 0-0 with Macalester

BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College goalkeeper Diana Bocklund (FY, Mahtomedi, Minn.) claimed her second collegiate shutout with an 11-save effort, while Macalester College goalkeeper Tressa Versteeg (JR, Pella, Iowa) scored her third shutout of the season with six saves, as the teams played to a scoreless, two-overtime tie in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Saturday evening at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Macalester (5-2-2 overall, 1-1-1 MIAC) claimed a 22-16 shots advantage over Augsburg (2-3-3 overall, 0-2-1 MIAC), including a 9-2 edge in the 20 minutes of overtime. But Bocklund collected five of her 11 saves in the game in the extra sessions.

The teams played even for most of the contest, with Augsburg holding a 14-13 shots advantage after the 90 minutes of regulation.

"We were determined to win tonight but have to acknowledge that Macalester is a great team and made it difficult for us," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Overall, I was pleased with our effort, but we need to combine our effort with a better understanding of how to win against the best teams in the country. We are hungry to get better and get results, and that is encouraging for our coaching staff."

Courtney Gamrath (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Courtney Barthel (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) had four shots apiece for the Auggies, with Lacey Hoover (JR, Duluth, Minn./Central HS) adding three shots.

For Macalester, Emily Bardwell (JR, Denver, Colo./East HS) had six shots, while Maddy Cochrane (SR, Grand Marais, Minn./Cook County HS) had four shots.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Wednesday (9/30) at 7:30 p.m., as Augsburg hosts St. Olaf and Macalester hosts Carleton.

"Now we have to face another top team in St. Olaf who is emerging as a contender," Navarre said. "I'm expecting another great MIAC game on Wednesday."
