ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Courtney Gamrath (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Carly Reimer (SO, Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies rallied for a 2-1 victory over St. Catherine University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at St. Catherine.
Augsburg (3-5-2 overall, 2-3-0 MIAC) gave up an early goal, as St. Catherine's (6-3-1 overall, 2-2-0 MIAC) Kelsey Moll scored from Kristi Thorwick in the 14th minute. But the Auggies struck back in the 33rd minute, as Gamrath tied the game with a goal on a free kick.
"The game started poorly as we once again gave up an unnecessary goal off a corner. However Courtney Gamrath leveled the match with a great free kick and from that point on, we started to find our rhythm," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Although we did not generate many shots, we held possession fairly well and were able to break them down for a nice goal to come from behind to win."
The Auggies completed the comeback in the 58th minute, as Reimer scored from Devon Ellena (SO, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS).
Despite being outshot by a 20-7 margin, Augsburg held firm behind the play of goalkeeper Diana Bocklund (SO, Pine Springs, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), who had six saves for the victory.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (10/6) at 4 p.m. with a nonconference game at Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
"As we begin the second half of our season, we have stressed the importance of consistentcy in effort and attitude. Today we made some mental errors, but to their credit, they kept their composure and got the job done," Navarre said. "Now we embark on a difficult week on the road, starting on Wednesday against a very athletic UW-Eau Claire team. Our next step though is simply to string solid trainings together and continue to work hard for each other."
