GAME BOXSCORE
MINNEAPOLIS --
Carly Reimer (SO, Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) and
Bri Clark (SO, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies claimed a 2-0 win over Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Friday evening at Edor Nelson Field.
Reimer scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season just 80 seconds into the game for the Auggies (5-8-3 overall, 4-4-1 MIAC), while Clark deposited her fourth goal of the year in the 64th minute.
Augsburg controlled possession throughout the game, outshooting Hamline (5-11-0 overall, 0-9-0 MIAC) by an 18-9 margin. Auggie goalkeeper
Katie Gajewski (FY, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) collected five saves in goal for her third shutout of the season.
The Auggies struck early with a goal at the 1:40 mark, as
Lacey Hoover (SR, Duluth, Minn./Central HS) fed a long pass downfield to Reimer, who shot from the top of the penalty box across to the left side of the net.
Augsburg converted following a corner kick at the 63:01 mark. A scramble off the corner kick put the ball to the left side, where
Courtney Gamrath (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) fed a strong pass to the center of the box, and Clark headed the ball into the net.
"A nice win. We held possession well and were able to create some dangerous chances," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre. "Carly had a nice finish from Lacey to start the game, and the insurance goal in the second half was important as
Bri Clark finished a great ball from
Courtney Gamrath. Overall, we played well for stretches and were solid defensively, but we need to keep our composure more in order to play our style of soccer."
Hamline goalkeeper Liz Stock (JR, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had five saves in the game. Natalie Cooper (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) had seven of Hamline's nine shots.
Reimer and Clark had four shots each for the Auggies, while
Kelsey Sorensen (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) had three shots.
Both teams return to MIAC action on Wednesday (9/27), as Augsburg hosts St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field, and Hamline plays at Gustavus at 3:30 p.m.
"St. Mary's will present a difficult challenge as they are physical and we are banged up, losing another starter to injury tonight," Navarre said. "Nevertheless, our younger players are playing better and starting to understand the expectations of our program. We will fight hard in our final matches."
