GAME BOXSCORE

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Phil Putratz (FY, Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) scored two third-quarter touchdowns, but the Augsburg College football team fell 48-14 to host St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Manitou Field.

Putratz rushed 18 times for 74 yards for Augsburg (3-5 overall, 1-5 MIAC), which was outgained by a 327-260 margin by St. Olaf (5-2 overall, 3-2 MIAC).

The Auggies were playing without the services of All-MIAC quarterback Marcus Brumm (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS), who was injured in last week's contest. Without one of the top passing quarterbacks in NCAA Division III football under center, the Auggies turned to wide receiver Muneer Al-Hameed (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn HS), who had played as both a quarterback and receiver in his high school career. Al-Hameed rushed 17 times for 74 yards, while passing for 66 yards on 7-of-14 attempts.

Putratz scored first for the Auggies on the opening drive of the second half, as the Auggies capped a six-play, 66-yard drive with Putratz's two-yard plunge. A 12-yard scoring run by Putratz capped a 12-play, 77-yard drive on Augsburg's second drive of the third quarter.

Putratz now has a team-high seven rushing touchdowns, putting him in a tie for fifth place on Augsburg's single-season rushing touchdown list. Marcus LeVesseur holds the school record with 10 rushing touchdowns in 2004.

Quarterback Dan Dobson rushed twice for touchdowns and threw for another for St. Olaf, throwing for 115 yards. Running back Leon Clark rushed 21 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns, including a 54-yard run in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

Tyler Phillips (JR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) led the Auggies with seven tackles (four solo) and a forced fumble, while John Hibbs (SR, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) had six tackles (five solo). Gelvin Harmon (FY, Kissimmee, Fla./Liberty HS) and Adam Mead (SR, St. Francis, Minn.) combined for a sack for the Auggies.

Matt Olson had 10 tackles (three solo) to lead St. Olaf, while Brooks Byrd had nine tackles (five solo).

Augsburg is idle next Saturday (10/30) and returns to MIAC play on Nov. 6 with the home finale, as Augsburg hosts Gustavus at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
