ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- Quarterback
Muneer Al-Hameed (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn HS) rushed 19 times for 81 yards and scored a touchdown on the last play of his collegiate career, as Augsburg College ended its season with a 19-6 loss to Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game on Saturday afternoon at Bethel.
Al-Hameed, who transitioned from wide receiver to quarterback for the final three games of the season after starter
Marcus Brumm was lost for the year due to an injury, completed 5-of-11 passes for 53 yards, in addition to his team-leading 81 yards rushing on 19 carries.
He led the Auggies (4-6 overall, 2-6 MIAC) on the final drive of the season, a seven-play, 58-yard drive that culminated in his two-yard touchdown run on the final play of the game.
Logan Flannery rushed 34 times for 180 yards and a touchdown to lead Bethel (9-1 overall, 7-1 MIAC), ranked No. 16 in the latest D3football.com Division III national poll. The Royals are in the hunt for an at-large bid to the 36-team NCAA Division III national playoffs, which will be anounced on Sunday.
Bethel outgained Augsburg by a 329-187 margin in the game, played in snowy conditions. With the wintry weather, neither team was able to throw the football, with Augsburg throwing for just 53 yards and Bethel throwing for just 22.
Royal quarterback Josh Aakre scored on a 38-yard touchdown run for the Royals in the first quarter, and Flannery rushed for a 19-yard score in the third quarter. The Royals also scored late in the game, with Kevin Lindh scoring on a 28-yard rush with 2:36 left. Lind rushed 10 times for 61 yards, and Aakre rushed nine times for 61 yards.
Phil Putratz (FY) rushed 16 times for 51 yards for Augsburg.
Defensively, Augsburg's
Adam Mead (SR, St. Francis, Minn.) led the way with 10 tackles (three solo), while
Josh Collins (SR, Rosemount, Minn.) had nine tackles (two solo), and
Bryce Vee (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn./Blaine HS) had eight tackles. Augsburg's defense blocked two punts in the game.
