Auggies open season with win

MINNEAPOLIS -- With five players scoring in double figures, the Augsburg College men's basketball team opened its season with an 89-55 nonconference win over Northland College on Friday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Matthew Quammen (SR, Victoria, Minn./Holy Family HS) led the way for Augsburg (1-0 overall) with 16 points, connecting on four 3-pointers in the game. Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (JR, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) had 12 points and Cory Polta (JR, Spring Lake Park, Minn.) scored 11, with Tyler Schmidt (SO, Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson HS) and Andy Seidlitz (FY, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) adding 10 points apiece.

Twelve different Auggies figured in the scoring, and the Auggies connected on 11 three-pointers in the game, including three by Parker Hines (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS), who had nine points.

Northland (0-2 overall) was led by Michael Mackey (SR, Holmen, Wis.), who scored a game-high 17 points. Adrian Flores (SO, Pico Rivera, Calif./St. Paul HS) had 8 points, with Eric Krall (SO, Winona, Minn.) adding seven points and Joey Brennan (SR, Ashland, Wis.) and Lloyd Kalfs (SR, Okabena, Minn./Southwest Star Concept HS) adding six points each.

Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday (11/23) at 7:30 p.m. with a nonconference matchup at Central College (Iowa).
