Auggies open with wins in Arizona

MESA, Ariz. -- Craig Henry (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) went 5-for-8 at the plate with five RBI and four runs scored, leading the Augsburg College baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Dickinson College (Pa.) in the Auggies' opening action at the Greater Phoenix Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Gene Autry Park. Augsburg (3-4 overall) won the first game 14-0 and won the second game 3-2.

Ten different Auggies had hits in the doubleheader, as the team pounded out 22 hits while allowing just six Dickinson hits in the twinbill. Augsburg had 15 hits in the first game and seven in the second game.

Augsburg pitcher Kristofer Ozga (JR, Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson HS) struck out three while allowing just two hits and not walking a batter over five innings to score the win in the first game, with Kyle Austin (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) pitching two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.

Leading 4-0 after two innings, Augsburg scored eight runs in the fifth inning to blow open the first game. The Auggies sent 13 batters to the plate, with four extra-base hits among its seven hits in the inning. Back-to-back triples by Adam Seaman (SO, Richfield, Minn.) and Mason Holmquist (JR, Prior Lake, Minn.) plated two runs, and Tim Gerding (SO, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) and Henry each had two-run doubles.

Henry went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Holmquist, Seaman, John Demgen (JR, Mimmeapolis, Minn./South HS) and Donald Blunt (JR, Richfield, Minn./) had two hits each.

In the second game, Henry opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning and added a run-scoring single in the third inning as part of a 2-for-4 performance. Joe Pierce (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.), who went 2-for-3, followed Henry's run-scoring single with an RBI double to cap the Auggie scoring. Dickinson scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Alex Glasenapp (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) collected six strikeouts against just one walk and three hits in a complete-game pitching win for the Auggies.

Augsburg returns to action on Monday (3/15) at 12 p.m. with a doubleheader against Simpson (Iowa).
