MINNEAPOLIS --
Carly Reimer (SO, Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) scored a goal and an assist, and
Bri Clark (SO, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) added a goal, leading Augsburg College to a 2-0 win over Northwestern College-Roseville in a nonconference women's soccer game on Tuesday evening at Edor Nelson Field.
Augsburg (1-0-1 overall) scored both its goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half, both coming off of corner kicks by
Courtney Gamrath (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS).
Clark scored just 2:42 into the game, with a Reimer touch coming between Gamrath's corner kick and Clark's shot into the left side of the net. At the 14:53 mark, Reimer's leaping header off a Gamrath corner kick gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead.
"Overall, we did well tonight. It obviously helped to get a couple early goals and settle into the match," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre. "We devoted our pregame to corners, so I was pleased to see the players respond with two goals off corners.
Bri Clark did a great job of framing the goal and putting it away on the first goal, and Carly's finish on the second goal was brilliant."
Augsburg outshot Northwestern (0-2-0 overall) by a 23-9 mark, with Auggie goalkeeper
Katie Gajewski (FY, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) collecting three saves in her first collegiate start for her first career shutout. Tara Hanson (JR, Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian HS) had 10 saves in goal for Northwestern.
Augsburg controlled the pace of play for most of the game, with eight corner kicks to Northwestern's two. Augsburg outshot Northwestern by a 10-4 mark in the first half and a 13-5 mark in the second half.
Clark and
Bri Dorale (SO, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) had six shots each for the Auggies, with Reimer adding four shots. Kyrie Jorgenson (SR, Decorah, Iowa) had three shots for the Eagles, with Courtney Davis (SR, Council Bluffs, Iowa/Abraham Lincoln HS) adding two shots.
Augsburg returns to action on Friday (9/10) at 5 p.m., with a nonconference game at Wisconsin-River Falls.
"We are still young and have to learn how to play a full game without letting our concentration diminish," Navarre said. "Our next opponent, UW-River Falls, is a solid team and playing them on the road will surely test us."
