Augsburg tops St. Olaf 92-74

MINNEAPOLIS -- Andy Seidlitz (FY, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) led the Augsburg College men's basketball team with 15 points as the Auggies cruised to a 92-74 victory over St. Olaf College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Monday night at Si Melby Hall.

Seidlitz recorded 15 points and two assists, connecting on 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc to provide a spark for the Auggies off the bench. Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was Matthew Quammen (SR, Victoria, Minn./Holy Family HS) and Cory Polta (JR, Spring Lake Park, Minn.), with 14 points apiece and Parker Hines (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) and Brett Sorenson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./South HS), who each had 10 points.

St. Olaf was led by Nathan Kuck, who scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting.

The two teams traded baskets in an exciting first 12 minutes of play. The Auggies were able to grab their first double-digit lead of the night with just under two minutes to play in the first half on a pair of free throws by Hines. Augsburg set up for the final shot before the intermission and Ben Flavin (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS), in his first game of the year for the Auggies, connected in a three-pointer from the top of the key to give Augsburg a 49-38 lead and the momentum going into the break.

Augsburg shot an impressive 59.1 percent (13-of-22) in the second half and stretched its lead to as many as 20. The Auggies shot a season-high 86.4 percent from the free throw line and connected on an impressive 11-of-23 from beyond the arc.

For the game, Augsburg shot 56.4 percent (31-of-55), while St. Olaf connected on 42.9 (27-of-63) percent of its shots. The Auggies claimed a 33-31 advantage and were just shy of a season-low in turnovers, only committing seven on the night.

Augsburg and St. Olaf both return to action on Wednesday (1/5) with Augsburg hosting Concordia College in a men's and women's double header and St. Olaf traveling to Winona to take on St. Mary's University.
