PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Augsburg College baseball team competed during its spring break week at the Greater Phoenix Invitational at various sites in the Phoenix area, going 3-6 in its nine games.
Augsburg returns to action with three games at Road Ranger Stadium in Rockford, Ill., this upcoming weekend, as the Auggies face Bethany Lutheran in a doubleheader on Saturday (3/26) at 10 a.m., and St. Scholastica in a single game on Sunday (3/27) at 11 a.m.
Friday, March 18 -- Augsburg 12-2, Wisconsin-Stout 6-6

MESA, Ariz. -- Ten different Auggies had hits, as the Auggies pounded out 19 hits and scored 14 runs in the split with Wisconsin-Stout at Gene Autry Park, winning 12-6 in the first game and falling 6-2 in the finale.
Adam Seaman (JR, Richfield, Minn.) had three hits, including a double, and scored three runs in the doubleheader, while
Lou LaChapelle (SO, Eagan, Minn.) had three hits as well.
Trent Anderson (JR, Eagan, Minn.) had two doubles in the first game and drove in two runs, while
Tim Gerding (JR, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) drove in three runs in the doubleheader.
Tom Peterson (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and #Brent Kolbow (SO, Forest Lake, Minn.) had a triple and drove in two runs each.
In the first game,
Craig Lynch (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) improved to 2-0 on the season with a strong pitching effort, striking out two over 4.1 innings of work.
Adam Langer (JR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) pitched in relief.
A six-run, six-hit sixth inning, where Augsburg sent 11 batters to the plate, gave the Auggies the lead to stay in the first game.
In the second game, a four-run fifth inning -- with three runs unearned -- gave the Blue Devils the lead for good, as Wisconsin-Stout sent nine batters to the plate. The Auggies scored twice in the sixth inning, with Kolbow driving in a run on a triple and LaChapelle driving in a run on a single.
Jarron Farah (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS) started for the Auggies, with
Brett Cloutier (SR, Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) and
Donald Blunt (SR, Richfield, Minn.) pitching in relief.
Thursday, March 17 -- Augsburg 3-5, Wisconsin-La Crosse 7-4

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Augsburg claimed a split of a doubleheader with Wisconsin-La Crosse at the Snedigar Complex, falling 7-3 in the first game and winning 5-4 in the second game.
Brent Kolbow (SO, Forest Lake, Minn.) had four hits and scored twice in the doubleheader, while
Jeff Butler (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) had three hits in the second game and scored three runs in the twinbill.
In the second game,
Bryant Nordby (SR, Brownton, Minn./McLeod West HS) pitched a complete-game effort to score the win, striking out one while allowing eight hits and just one earned run.
Ryan Sward (FY, Eagan, Minn.) and
Trent Anderson (JR, Eagan, Minn.) each had a double for the Auggies.
In the first game,
Kristofer Ozga (SR, Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson HS) collected four strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work, with just three earned runs against him.
Jeff Boresz (JR, Chardon, Ohio/Mentor HS) pitched in relief. Kolbow had two hits for the Auggies in the first game.

MESA, Ariz. -- Despite not giving up a walk or an error in the game, Augsburg (3-5 overall) gave up 16 runs on 23 hits to Springfield in the nine-inning contest on Tuesday at Gene Autry Park.
Eren Cur (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) started for the Auggies, with Brett Cloutier (SR, Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS), Landon Olson (SO, Alexandria, Minn./Duluth Marshall HS) and Tom Petersen (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) also pitching in relief.
Alec Johnson (JR, Marine on St. Croix, Minn./Forest Lake HS) went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI to lead the Auggies, while Donald Blunt (SR, Richfield, Minn.) had a two-run triple.
Augsburg is idle on Wednesday and returns to action on Thursday at 11 a.m. with a doubleheader against Wisconsin-La Crosse at the Snedigar Complex in Chandler, Ariz.

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Augsburg (3-4 overall) split a doubleheader with Concordia University-Wisconsin on Monday at the Snedigar Complex, winning the first game 7-0 while dropping the second game 10-1.
On the day,
Donald Blunt (SR, Richfield, Minn.) led the Auggies with a 3-for-5 effort with a run scored and five RBI, including a grand-slam home run in the first game.
Jeff Butler (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) went 3-for-7 with two RBI, and
Lou LaChapelle (SO, Eagan, Minn.) went 3-for-5 with a run.
In the first game, Blunt's grand-slam homer with one out in the sixth inning broke open what had been a pitchers' duel. Following the grand slam, Butler then drove in two runs on a single to give the Auggies a commanding lead.
Craig Lynch (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) allowed just one hit in five innings of pitching, striking out four to earn the win.
Jeff Boresz (JR, Chardon, Ohio/Mentor HS) and

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Leadoff hitter Brent Kolbow (SO, Forest Lake, Minn.) went 3-for-5 at the plate in the doubleheader, leading Augsburg College in its opening games at the Greater Phoenix Invitational on Sunday at South Mountain Community College. The Auggies dropped their opening doubleheader to Marian (Wis.), falling 10-2 in the first game and 4-3 in the second game.
Augsburg (2-3 overall) was limited to four hits in each game against Marian, but put three runs on the board in the first inning of the second game, as Ryan Sward (FY, Eagan, Minn.) hit his first collegiate home run, a three-run blast.
The Auggies also got on the board first in the opener, scoring two runs in the first inning, with Kolbow scoring on an error and Tom Petersen (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) driving in Jeff Butler (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) on a single.
Augsburg committed four errors in the first game, which led to three unearned runs. Starter Kristofer Ozga (SR, Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson HS) started and struck out three in four innings of work.
