Auggies drop 2-1 decision to Pipers

BOX SCORE

MINNEAPOLIS-- Adam Seaman (JR, Richfield, Minn.) went 3-for-3 and recorded his sixth double of the season, but the Augsburg College baseball team came up short in a 2-1 nine inning loss to the Hamline University Pipers Monday afternoon at Parade Stadium. Monday's game was played as a non-conference game, as the two teams will face off in a traditional MIAC double-header on April 30 in Saint Paul.

Seaman recorded hits in the first, third and fifth innings, before being pulled for a defensive replacement in the top of the sixth. Seaman is now batting .391 on the season and his 27 hits are a team high.

Augsburg (9-14 overall, 4-6 MIAC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as catcher Trent Anderson (JR, Eagan, Minn.) hit a two-out bases loaded single to score outfielder Brent Kolbow (SO, Forest Lake, Minn.) in the bottom of the first.

The score would stay that way until Hamline's (12-10 overall, 7-3 MIAC) Jordan Buck (Apple Valley, Minn.) hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score at 1-1. The Pipers struck pay dirt again in the top of the ninth, as Dan Ellefson's (Burnsville, Minn.) two-out RBI single to left field scored Josh Dishop (Roseville, Minn.) from second base.

Augsburg starter Tom Petersen (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) made his first start of the season and cruised through three shutout innings allowing only two Piper batters to reach base. Eren Cur (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) picked up where Petersen left off, as he gave up two hits and one run in four innings of relief for Augsburg.

Bobby Monsour (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Roseville HS) went 3-for-4 at the plate for Augsburg, while teammate Jeff Butler (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) went 2-for-5.

Augsburg returns to action Wednesday (4/20) with an MIAC double-header on the road against defending conference champ St. Thomas.
