NORTHFIELD, Minn. --
Donald Blunt (SR, Richfield, Minn.) hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning and a run-scoring single in the seventh inning to provide the insurance runs in the first-game victory for Augsburg College, as the Auggies split a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader with St. Olaf College on Friday afternoon at Mark Almli Field.
Augsburg (10-19 overall, 5-11 MIAC) won the first game 4-1, while St. Olaf (20-11 overall, 8-8 MIAC) won the second game 9-3.
Tom Petersen (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) put the Auggies on the scoreboard in the first inning, driving home two runs on a two-out double. St. Olaf scored in the fifth inning on a solo homer by Sam Maus, but the Oles managed just three baserunners the rest of the way.
Adam Jacobsen (SR, Wayzata, Minn./Orono HS) picked up the pitching win for the Auggies in the first game, striking out five while not allowing a walk and giving up just two hits in five innings.
Jeff Boresz (JR, Chardon, Ohio/Mentor HS) claimed the save, striking out three while walking one and allowing just one hit in two innings of scoreless relief.
Blunt went 3-for-3 in the first game, scoring twice. He went 4-for-7 in the doubleheader. Petersen had two hits in the first game.
In the second game, St. Olaf built a 6-1 lead after two innings, with Maus hitting a two-run double in the first inning and Jack Schechinger hit a three-run double in the second. The Oles also scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Augsburg scored on a Blunt RBI grounder in the first inning, an RBI single by
Adam Seaman (JR, Richfield, Minn.) in the third and a solo homer by pinch-hitter
Mike Gallagher (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) in the seventh.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Saturday (4/30) at 3 p.m., with a doubleheader at Hamline.
