Cory Polta (SR, Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) had a standout night for the Augsburg College men's basketball team but it wasn't enough as the Auggies fell 68-53 to MIAC rival St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon Schoenecker Arena.
Polta recorded his second double-double of the season, with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while posting a career-high six blocked shots and a career-high four assists.
Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (SR, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) also finished with a double-double, posting 13 points and 10 rebounds, while
Tyler Schmidt (JR, Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson HS) tied for a game-high with 15 points.
St. Thomas was led by the duo of Will DeBerg and Connor Nord. DeBerg finished with 15 points, while Nord finished with 11 points and 10 boards.
For the game, Augsburg shot 40.0 percent (20-of-40) from the floor, while the Tommies connected on 42.1 percent (24-of-57) of their shots. St. Thomas claimed a 35-30 advantage on the boards and claimed a 34-11 advantage in bench scoring.
Augsburg and St. Thomas both return to action on Wednesday (1/11) traveling to Northfield, with Augsburg taking on St. Olaf College while St. Thomas squaring off against Carleton College.
