Auggies top Gustavus 1-0 in OT

BOXSCORE ST. PETER, Minn. -- Bri Clark (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) scored the game winning goal in the third minute of overtime, giving Augsburg College a 1-0 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at the Gustie Soccer Field.

Clark scored her seventh goal of the season off a rebound on a Molly Allen (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) shot 2:05 into the overtime session, enabling Augsburg to improve to 9-3-2 overall, 4-2-2 in MIAC play. Augsburg remains in position for a spot in the four-team MIAC postseason playoffs with three conference games remaining in the regular season.

"Huge win," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "We've been struggling to finish lately, and as a result, missed opportunities to accumulate more points in league play. We did not want to have to settle for another tie. However, Gustavus played well defensively and limited our chances. Fortunately early in OT, Bri Clark was able to turn a defender and find a moment of separation in the penalty area. Bri took advantage and executed a great finish to get us the win."

Augsburg claimed a 22-9 advantage in shots, incluiding a 14-6 advantage in shots-on-goal. Katie Gajewski (JR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) collected six saves to earn the shutout victory. Jessica Richert had 13 saves for Gustavus.

Clark had seven shots in the game for the Auggies, including five on-goal. Allen and Taylor Kuramoto (SO, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) had three shots each, and Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS), Olivia Muyres (SO, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) and Rachel Nelson (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) had two shots each.

Augsburg returns to play with a nonconference game against St. Scholastica on Tuesday (10/16) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field. Augsburg has three of its final four games of the regular season at home -- Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. against Hamline at Augsburg, Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Concordia-Moorhead, and Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. against St. Mary's at Augsburg.

"The MIAC games only get bigger and more intense, and Friday's game versus Hamline will be electric," Navarre said. "But first we will renew a great rivalry with another top team in the region when we play St. Scholastica on Tuesday. After a week on the road, it will feel good to be back at Edor Nelson Field."
