Auggies score 1-1 tie with Carleton

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Devon Ellena (SR, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) scored the game-tying goal in the 34th minute, as the Augsburg College women's soccer team claimed a 1-1, two-overtime tie with visiting Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

Ellena scored on a give-and-go play from Bri Clark (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) in the 34th minute for Augsburg (8-3-1 overall, 3-2-1 MIAC). Augsburg outshot Carleton (6-3-3 overall, 2-2-2 MIAC) by a 26-19 margin in the game, as both teams had numerous chances to score in the contest.

"I was very proud of our effort tonight. It seems we did everything but win," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Our character and work ethic were solid. This kind of performance makes me excited for the rest of our season. The players are hungry and want to do well."

Marlena Hartman-Filson (SR, Evergreen, Colo./Colorado Academy HS) scored for the Knights in the sixth minute, lifting a high floating shot to the corner of the goal, assisted by Bailey Ulbricht (SO, Severna Park, Md.).

Lexi Felix (FY, Kailua, Hawaii/Iolani HS) had six saves in goal for the Auggies, while Mikayla Coluombe (FY, Crystal, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) had 11 saves in goal for Carleton.

Clark had six shots in the game for the Auggies, while Olivia Muyres (SO, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) had four shots, including one that hit the crossbar in the 103rd minute. Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS), Molly Allen (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) and Marie Fitzgerald (FY, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) had three shots each. Ellie Wilson (SO, Roseville, Minn.) had five shots for Carleton, while Hartman-Filson and Ulbricht had four shots each.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Tuesday (10/9) at 3:30 p.m. with a game at St. Olaf.

"We expended a lot of energy tonight, but I'm optimistic we will be ready on Tuesday," Navarre said. "It's another big game against a solid team. St Olaf is playing well right now; we will need another effort like this in order to do well."
