BOXSCORE AUGSBURG GAME NOTES/PROGRAM
MINNEAPOLIS -- Quarterback
Ayrton Scott (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) closed his debut collegiate football season in style, tying a single-game school record with four rushing touchdowns as Augsburg College closed its season with a 49-24 victory over Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
Scott rushed for 149 yards on 17 carries, while completing 14-of-22 passing for 273 yards and one touchdown against one interception for Augsburg. Accounting for 422 yards of total offense on Saturday, Scott rushed for 100-plus yards for the ninth time in his 10 games this season, finishing the year with a single-season school record 1,436 rushing yards. Scott also finished with 209 carries, the fourth Auggie to ever rush for 200-plus carries in a single season.
With the win, Augsburg finished 7-3 overall, 5-3 in MIAC play -- the best overall record for the Auggies since finishing 10-2 overall (9-1 MIAC) in its 1997 MIAC championship season. The 7-3 record also marks Augsburg's second straight above-.500 overall finish -- the first time Augsburg has finished above-.500 in consecutive seasons since a three-year stretch from 1997 to 1999.
Augsburg outgained Carleton (3-7 overall, 1-7 MIAC) by a 528-346 margin in the game, marking the fifth time in its final six games of the season that the Auggies accumulated 500-plus yards of total offense. Augsburg had 400-plus yards of total offense in nine of its 10 games this season, finishing with 4,712 yards of total offense (2,379 rushing, 2,333 passing) -- an average of 471.2 yards per-game.
Scott rushed for three first-half touchdowns -- 26 and 12 yards in the first quarter, and one yard late in the second quarter -- and a 32-yard score in the third quarter. He became the second Auggie this season to rush for four touchdowns in a game, joining
Jerise Washington (SO, Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS), who accomplished the feat in the Auggies' 45-37 win at St. Olaf on Oct. 13. The four rushing-touchdown feat has now been accomplished four times in school history, and an Auggie scoring four touchdowns in a game has happened nine times in school history.
Scott, who entered Saturday's game ranked third among Division III players nationally in total offense yardage per-game, finished the season with 3,681 yards of total offense -- 1,436 rushing yards and 2,245 passing yards on 173-of-283 passing, with 26 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. His 26 passing touchdowns are second-most in a single season in school history, while his 12 rushing touchdowns are also second-most in a single season in school history. Scott's 422 yards of total offense marked the seventh time he has had 300-plus yards of total offense in a game this season.
