BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 GAME 1 BOXSCORE | GAME 2 BOXSCORE

WINONA, Minn. -- The Augsburg College baseball team fell in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at St. Mary's University's Max Molock Field on Sunday afternoon. Augsburg (23-14 overall, 9-9 MIAC) fell 2-0 to St. Mary's (19-16 overall, 8-8 MIAC) in the first game and 6-5 in eight innings in the second game.

Augsburg currently sits among a cluster of five teams with eight or nine wins in MIAC play entering the final week of the regular season, in the hunt for spots in the four-team MIAC postseason playoffs. The Auggies have one regular-season doubleheader left, hosting second-place St. John's (23-11 overall, 11-5 MIAC) next Sunday (5/6) at 1 p.m. at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis. Only St. Thomas (28-4 overall, 16-0 MIAC) has clinched a berth in the MIAC playoffs.

The Auggies rallied from a 4-1, second-inning deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning, but the Cardinals scored a run in the fifth and claimed the win with a run in the eighth inning, as Paul LaNasa scored following a fielder's choice by Teddy VanRanst and a fielding error.

Augsburg scored first in the second game, as Taylor McMurray (FY, Vadnais Heights, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) led off the game with a double and scored on a groundout by Ryan Sward (SO, Eagan, Minn.). St. Mary's scored twice in the first inning -- on a wild pitch and on a sacrifice fly by Curt Swanson -- and twice in the second inning -- on a run-scoring double by Zach Wolfe and an RBI single by Matt Tessmer.

But the Auggies rallied to take the lead with a three-run third inning, as Lou LaChapelle (JR, Eagan, Minn.) drove in two runs on a double and later scored on a wild pitch. Another run came across in the fourth, as Alec Johnson (SR, Marine on St. Croix, Minn./Forest Lake HS) scored on a wild pitch. St. Mary's tied the game with a run in the fifth, as Kevin Gannon doubled and scored on an RBI single by Jon Schlemmer.

Ryan Mestnik (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) started and pitched two innings for the Auggies, giving up four runs. Tanner Oakes (FY, Jordan, Minn.) pitched five innings of relief, striking out three while walking three.

In the second game, Augsburg could manage just two hits against St. Mary's starter VanRanst, both coming in the fifth inning -- a double by Adam Carl (SO, Eagan, Minn.) and a single by Johnson.  The Cardinals scored both their runs in the second inning, on a two-run double by Wolfe.

VanRanst struck out four while walking one in a complete-game effort for the Cardinals. Eren Cur (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) pitched 5.2 innings for the Auggies, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking one.
