ST. PETER, Minn. --
Hakeem Bourne-McFarlane (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from
Ayrton Scott (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) on the final offensive play of the game, giving Augsburg College a 26-24 victory at Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game on Saturday afternoon.
Augsburg (2-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) drove 80 yards on seven plays in the final 34 seconds of the game to claim the victory, after Gustavus (1-1 overall, 0-1 MIAC) had taken the lead with a touchdown with1:04 to play.
The final drive began on the Augsburg 20-yard line with 34 seconds remaining, Scott completed a 20-yard pass to
Adam Carl (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) to the Augsburg 40-yard line. The Auggies spiked the ball to stop the clock. On the next play, Scott completed a 12-yard strike to
Wesley Waytashek (SR, Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) to give the Auggies a first down on the Gustavus 48-yard line. On the next play Scott completed a 6-yard pass to
Adam Carl (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) who was able to get out of bounds to stop the clock. The Augsburg coaching staff brought in Bourne-McFarlane, who has switched to the defensive side of the ball this year, for the final play game which proved to be exactly the play call the Auggies needed as Scott completed a 42-yard pass to Bourne-McFarlane who caught the ball on the three yard line and muscled his way into the end zone with no time remaining to give Augsburg the come-from-behind victory.

Tyler Swanson (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from
Marcus Brumm '11 on the final offensive play of the game to give Augsburg a 32-31 victory at St. John's University in a similar thrilling style.
The victory was the fourth consecutive for Augsburg over Gustavus, dating back to a 28-21 win in 2009 at Edor Nelson Field, and the second year in a row that the Auggies topped the Gusties down in St. Peter.
Scott completed 19-of-36 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception. Scott was also the leading rusher for the Auggies recording 163 yards on 23 attempts, including a team long 20-yarder.
Carl caught nine passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns, his third career game with more than 100 yards total receiving.
Phil Putratz (JR, Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) rushed 11 times for 41 yards and caught two passes for 53 yards, including a career-long 35-yarder
In addition to his last-second touchdown reception, Bourne-McFarlane opened the scoring for the Auggies returning a 82-yard kickoff with no time remaining in the first half to cut the Gustavus lead to 10-7 at the intermission.
Gustie quarterback Muresuk Mena completed 19-of-27 passes for 239 yards, and three touchdowns. Andre Creighton caught six passes for 72 yards to lead Gustavus, while duo of Mena and Jeffrey Dubose teammed up for 35 rushes and 150 yards.
The Gusties took a lead in the first quarter, as Tom Huepenbecker was able to convert a 19-yard field goal to cap a 15-play, 77-yard drive that took 7:06 off the clock. The Gusties Michael Hintze caught a three yard pass from Mena with :13 remaining in the second quarter to give Gustavus a 10-0 lead.
Bourne-McFarlane answered the Gustavus touchdown with an 82-yard kickoff return to cut the Gustie lead to 10-7.
Augsburg was able to strike first in the second half when Carl caught a 28-yard pass from Scott to cap a six-play, 86-yard drive, giving Augbsurg a 14-10 advantage.
Gustavus answered on its next possession as Phillip Bulter hauled in a 12-yard pass from Mena to retake the lead 17-14 after an eight-play, 80-yard drive.
In what proved to be a thrilling final five minutes of the game, Augsburg's Carl caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Scott to give Augsburg a 20-17 lead, which Gustavus answered with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Dubose to create a 24-20 Gustie lead with 1:04 to play before Augsburg miraculous game winner touchdown by Bourne-McFarlane.
Defensively,
Bryce Vee (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Blaine HS) had nine tackles, while Bourne-McFarlane added eight and
Felix Coleman (SO, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had 7 tackles.
Avery Dorsett (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) recorded the lone quarterback sack for the Auggies and added three tackles for loss.
Kaleb Williams (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) recorded his first career interception, halting an 11-play, 52-yard Gustavus drive.
Jake Forcier led Gustavus with 10 tackles.
Both teams return to MIAC play next Saturday (9/22), as Augsburg travels to St. Paul to face Hamline University at 1 p.m., and Gustavus travels to Northfield to take on St. Olaf.
