BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Scoring four unanswered goals, including three in an 11-minute span in the second half, the Augsburg College women's soccer team rallied for a 4-1 victory over St. Catherine University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at St. Catherine.
Trailing 1-0, Augsburg (8-3-1 overall, 3-1-0 MIAC) rallied with a first-half goal by
Bri Clark (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS), then used goals by
Abi Rodstein (SO, Eagan, Minn.),
Carly Reimer (SR, Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) and
Olivia Muyres (SO, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) to claim the victory.
Clark scored her sixth goal of the year from
Kelsey Sorensen (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) at the 20:50 mark, just 3:05 after St. Catherine had scored the first goal of the game, when Elly Leyva scored from Leisl Wolf.
Rodstein scored her first goal of the season, an unassisted tally, at the 55:25 mark, and just 1:09 later, Reimer scored her third goal of the season. Muyres capped the Auggie scoring in the 67th minute with a goal from
Molly Allen (SO, Stillwater, Minn.).
"I thought our team showed a lot of poise today. To get down a goal on the road and come back and score four goals in a row was impressive," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre. "
Bri Clark's goal in the first half was huge because it allowed us to level the match before halftime, which I thought gave us a lot of confidence going into the second half.
Abi Rodstein was solid today and did very well to score from distance to get the all-important second goal. Carly has been dangerous on set pieces this year and proved it on the thir goal. Meanwhile,
Olivia Muyres's goal was a good sequence with
Molly Allen; Olivia's turn and finish was outstanding."
Augsburg outshot St. Catherine by a 16-9 margin. After
Katie Gajewski (JR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) started and played the first half,
Lexi Felix (FY, Kailua, Hawaii/Iolani HS) entered the game in relief in the second half and collected four saves for the win. Danielle Mendez had five saves for St. Catherine.
With the win, Augsburg's third in a row, the Auggies move into a tie for third place in the MIAC standings with nine conference points. Augsburg will return to action next Saturday (10/6) at 7 p.m., hosting Carleton at Edor Nelson Field.
"After a tough week last week, the team responded well with three wins this week and earned themselves some needed rest and regeneration, as we look forward to our home match next Saturday night against last year's co-champs, Carleton," Navarre said.
