BOXSCORE NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team finished with four players in double-digures and two having 20-plus scoring efforts as the Auggies put up a season-high 90 points to claim a victory over St. Olaf College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Skoglund Center. With the win, the Auggies move to 11-2 overall (6-2 MIAC) while the Oles fall to 5-8 overall (4-4 MIAC).
Augsburg was led offensively by
Dan Kornbaum (JR, Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS), who posted his third consecutive 20-plus scoring performance, putting up 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.
Brett Rasmussen (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) scored a career-high 21 points and led the Auggies with six boards while adding three assists. Also finishing in double-figures for Augsburg was
Noah Veach (JR, Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS) and
Tyler Schmidt (SR, Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson HS). Veach finished with 17 points, 13 of which came from the free throw line, and added five boards, while Schmidt finished with 14 points and a pair of boards.
St. Olaf was led by Sterling Nielsen, who finished with 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the floor.
In a great shooting afternoon, that saw both teams connect on over 50 percent from the floor, Augsburg was able to outscore St. Olaf 14- 6 over the final 4:46 of play to seal the important MIAC win for the Auggies.
For the game, Augsburg tied a season-high shooting percentage connecting on 60.4 percent (29-of-48) of its shots -- including 70.8 percent in the first-half, while St. Olaf hit 54.8 percent (34-of-62) from the floor. The Auggies claimed a 27-23 advantage on the boards and the Auggies had a season-high afternoon at the free throw line hitting 92.9 percent (28-of-28), while holding St. Olaf to 9-of-10.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday (1/14) with Augsburg traveling across town to take on Macalester College and St. olaf hosting the University of St. Thomas.
