BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A cold shooting afternoon proved to be the undoing of the Augsburg College men's basketball team as they fell 94-52 to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-rival St. Thomas in conference action on Saturday afternoon at Schoenecker Arena in front of more than 1,000 fans.
With the loss the Auggies fall to 9-1 overall (4-1 MIAC), while the Tommies move to 11-0 overall (6-0 MIAC).
Augsburg was led by
Brett Rasmussen (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS), who finished with 13 points, his fourth consecutive game in double figures. Rasmussen finished 5-for-10 from the floor and added a game-high seven rebounds.
St. Thomas finished with three players in double figures led by Will DeBerg, who finished with a game-high 23 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and 9-of-9 from the charity stripe.
A pair of free throws by
Andy Seidlitz (JR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) at the 10:44 mark brought the Auggies within two, at a score of 13-11, but St. Thomas used a 15-0 run to push its lead to 26-11. The unbeaten Tommies continued their hotshooting afternoon and cruised on for the win over the Auggies.
For the game, Augsburg shot a season-low 35.3 percent (18-of-51) from the field, while St. Thomas connected on 53.7 percent (29-of-54) of its shots. The Auggies claimed a 35-31 advantage on the boards but Augsburg was outshot from beyond 3-point range 73.3 percent (11-of-15) to 25.0 percent (3-of-12) and was outscored 31-3 in points off turnovers.
Both teams return to action on Monday (1/7) when the Auggies travel to Collegeville to take on St. John's University, while the Tommies travel to Arden Hills to take on the Bethel University Royals.
