BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Olivia Muyres (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) set a new Augsburg College single-season record for goals, scoring her 15th goal in Augsburg's 3-1 loss at Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Tuesday afternoon at Paterson Field.
Muyres scored the lone goal of the game for the Auggies (8-2-4 overall, 4-2-1 MIAC) in the 13th minute, scoring from
Molly Allen (JR, Stillwater, Minn.).
The MIAC's leader in overall goals and points (37), her 15th goal broke the school record of 14, previously set by Kristin Totushek in 1997. Combined with seven assists (tied for second among MIAC players in overall statistics), Muyres' 37 points are one shy of the Augsburg single-season points record of 38 (13 goals, 12 assists), set by Kara Seibel in 1995.
"This is a great accomplishment. I'm proud of Olivia, she has really elevated her game this year and is deserving of this honor," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre. "It's fitting that the goal came from Molly's cross. Those two have been friends since their first year and have a unique connection on and off the field."
In 52 career games in her three Augsburg seasons, Muyres now has 27 goals and 15 assists for 69 points. She now ranks fourth in school history in career goals, tied for 10th in career assists and fourth in career points.
In Tuesday's game, Hamline (6-6-2 overall, 3-4-0 MIAC) scored at the 5:58 mark, when Aubrey Stenson scored from Eden Behrens. Muyres tied the game at 1-1 with her goal at the 12:02 mark. But the Pipers scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half to take back the lead. Grace Nichols scored from Mallory Wirth and Kristen Berry at the 44:50 mark, and Behrens scored from Aileen Scheibner and Nicole Verdoorn at the 49:51 mark.
"We simply did not own our penalty area today. Hamline did well to score off balls played in the box that we failed to clear," Navarre said.
Both teams had nine shots in the game, while Hamline had six corner kicks to Augsburg's two.
Katie Gajewski (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) had two saves in goal for Augsburg, while Erin Urbanowicz had five saves for Hamline.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Saturday (10/19) at 1 p.m., with a game at Saint Benedict.
"St. Ben's is an excellent team. We must increase our effort and commitment in order to do well on Saturday," Navarre said.
