"We played well tonight. We have our energy back which is critical at this point in the season," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre. "We started strong, getting some great goals from
Olivia Muyres, who continues to excel. Everyone was committed to doing well this evening."
Augsburg's single-season record-holder for both goals and total points, Muyres now has 18 goals and eight assists for 44 points, the goal and point totals tops among MIAC players in overall statistics and the assist total third-most. Denison's 10 goals this season are tied for fourth-most among conference players in overall statistics, while Denison and Fitzgerald are tied for fifth in the conference's point table with 21.
Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by a 42-15 margin this season -- with the goal total and goal differential (27) both tops among MIAC teams in overall statistics.
Katie Gajewski (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) and
Lucy Bukowski (SO, Two Harbors, Minn.) combined for the shutout win in goal for Augsburg, with each playing a half and recording a save. Roisen Granlund (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) had 10 saves for the Gusties in goal.
"Additionally, it was a great Senior Night," said Navarre. "Katie,
Alekzandra Miller (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) and
Rachel Nelson (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) have contributed significantly to our program, and I was pleased with their effort and leadership tonight."
The Auggies were able to get several reserves valuable MIAC playing time in the contest, with 22 players making an appearance in the contest.
Augsburg has its final home regular-season game on Wednesday (10/30) at 7:30 p.m., hosting St. Olaf at Edor Nelson Field. The Auggies close the regular season next Saturday (11/2) at 1 p.m., with a game at St. Thomas.
"We have a very difficult challenge ahead of us on Wednesday," Navarre said. "St Olaf is a strong team who is also in the middle of the playoff race, sitting above us in the standings. We will need another outstanding performance if we are going to remain among the contenders."
