BOXSCORE ST. CLOUD, Minn. --
Olivia Muyres (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) tied an Augsburg College single-season school record for goals with a score in the 31st minute, as Augsburg claimed a 1-1, two-overtime tie with Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer contest on Monday evening at St. Cloud State University's Husky Stadium.
Muyres tied Augsburg's single-season record for goals, set by Kristin Totushek in 1997. The MIAC's overall statistics leader in goals (14), assists (7) and points (35), Muyres is now three points away from tying Augsburg's single-season points record of 38, set by Kara Seibel (13 goals, 12 assists) in 1995. Augsburg's single-season assist record is 13, set by Astrid Larssen in 1995.
"I was proud of Olivia for tying the single-season goal-scoring record, a well deserved honor," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre. "I am excited that she has opportunities in the near future to try and break it."
The game was rescheduled to Monday after inclement weather forced the cancellation of the originally scheduled game on Wednesday evening. The game was called in the 17th minute with Augsburg leading 2-0. However, because the game had not reached 70 minutes played, rules dictate that the game needed to be restarted from the beginning, with all statistics wiped out. Conference travel rules also necessitated a move to a neutral site between Augsburg and Concordia.
The Auggies are now 8-0-4 overall, 4-0-1 in MIAC play, the conference's lone unbeaten team remaining. Concordia is now 7-3-1 overall, 4-1-1 in MIAC play, and both Augsburg and Concordia are tied for the lead in the conference standings with 13 points (three points for a win, one for a tie).
Muyres scored from
Alekzandra Miller (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) in the 31st minute. Concordia tied the game with a goal from Laura Prosinski in the 53rd minute.
Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 14-13 margin in the game, with the Auggies recording five shots on-goal and the Cobbers recording four shots on-goal.Â
Katie Gajewski (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) had four saves in goal for Augsburg, while Elizabeth Bitzan had three saves in goal for Concordia.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Saturday (10/12) at 1 p.m. with a game at Carleton.
"Unfortunately we did not play our best soccer tonight. We need to rest and then strengthen our resolve and improve our quality of play," Navarre said. "There is still a lot of room for us to grow. We must improve as we now start a difficult stretch on the road, starting on Saturday versus a hungry and improved Carleton team."
