Muyres scores twice in Augsburg 2-0 victory

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Olivia Muyres (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) recorded her third multi-goal game of the season, scoring twice in rainy conditions to lead the Augsburg College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in a nonconference game on Saturday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

Muyres, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's leader in both goals (nine) and points (22), scored in the third minute and 60th minute, enabling the Auggies to remain unbeaten at 4-0-3 overall. Marta Anderson (FY, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) assisted on both goals, with Morgan Kenny (FY, Wauwautosa, Wis./Brookfield Central HS) assisting on the first goal.

On a scramble in front of the goal, Muyres found a loose ball and deposited it in the net at the 2:10 mark for her first goal, and she headed home a feed from the left side from Anderson at the 59:38 mark for her second goal.

"The combination of the weather and River Falls' defending made it difficult on us tonight," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Nevertheless, we were able to string together enough moments to ultimately net a goal in each half and get the job done."

Through the first seven games of the season, Muyres' nine goals are already tied for seventh-most in a single season in school history; the record, 14, was set by Kristin Totushek in 1997. Her 22 points are already tied for 10th most in a single season in school history, with the record being 38 (13 goals, 12 assists) by Kara Seibel in 1995. Muyres is currently sixth in school history in career goals with 21 and seventh in school history in career points with 52 (21 goals, 10 assists).

Augsburg outshot Wisconsin-River Falls (2-4-0 overall) by a 22-9 margin, including an 11-3 advantage in the first half. Augsburg also had five corner kicks to the Falcons' two. Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by a 26-4 margin this year.

Katie Gajewski (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) made two saves in goal to pick up her second shutout of the season and the Auggies' fourth in their seven games this year. Gajewski now has 14 career shutouts, good for fifth in Augsburg career history.

Muyres and Taylor Kuramoto (JR, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) had six shots apiece for the Auggies, while Abi Rodstein (JR, Eagan, Minn.) had two shots.

Alex Swatloski (JR, Green Bay, Wis./East HS) had four shots for the Falcons, while Alyssa Manor (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) had three shots.

Augsburg opens MIAC play this Wednesday (9/18) at 5 p.m. with a game at Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minn.

"As we complete the nonconference schedule, I feel the team has a lot of room to improve, yet is hungry for the rest of the season," Navarre said. "I'm pleased with the desire to get better and the overall energy we have as a group. We are excited to start the conference season on Wednesday in Winona."
