BOXSCORE

MEQUON, Wis. -- Quarterback Ayrton Scott (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) accounted for 482 yards of total offense on Saturday, as his Augsburg College football team opened the 2013 season with a 51-17 victory over Concordia University-Wisconsin at Tomasini Stadium.

As a team, Augsburg produced 606 yards of total offense in the game -- its most yardage in a game since recording 615 yards in a 44-38 win over Gustavus on Oct. 27, 2007. The Auggies had 309 rushing yards as a team, along with 297 passing yards. Meanwhile, the Auggie defense held Concordia to 353 yards of total offense.

The Auggies scored on six of their eight first-half possessions, building a 38-10 lead at halftime. In all, eight of their 14 drives in the game resulted in scores.

The game's start was delayed by more than 90 minutes due to inclement weather, but once the weather cleared, the Auggies got off to a quick start, scoring on its first three drives. Augsburg drove 79 yards on its first drive, keyed by a 63-yard run to the Concordia 9-yard line by Scott. Four plays later, kicker Brandyn Oliver (FY, Lake City, Minn.) scored his first points as an Auggie with a 25-yard field goal.

Turnovers led to the next two Auggie scores. Michael Juberian (JR, Richfield, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) forced a fumble that was recovered by teammate Dustin Buhr (JR, Byron, Minn.) at the Concordia 39, and four plays later, Scott threw his first touchdown pass of the season, an 18-yarder to Joey Sonnenfeld (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS). On the next drive, Hakeem Bourne-McFarlane (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) claimed the first of his two interceptions on the day, returning the ball to the Concordia 34. Two plays later, Scott scored on a 21-yard touchdown run, giving the Auggies a 17-0 lead with 5:01 left in the first quarter.

Running back Tyler Maxwell (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.), playing his first game since missing the 2012 season due to injury, contributed to Augsburg's three second-quarter touchdown. His two scores -- one-yarders at the 12:02 mark of the quarter and the 1:00 mark of the quarter -- bookended a run from the 5-yard line with 7:31 left, which he fumbled into the end zone. Center Chad Thompson (SR, Maple Grove, Minn.) recovered the loose ball in the end zone for the score.

Augsburg scored twice more to reach the half-century mark -- its seventh time scoring 40 or more points in its last 11 contests. Scott scored on a 61-yard run with 3:09 left in the third quarter, and Phil Putratz (SR, Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Scott with 7:35 left in the fourth quarter, capping a six-play, 99-yard drive.

Maxwell rushed 11 times for 49 yards for the Auggies, while Putratz rushed seven times for 38 yards, while catching three passes for 62 yards. Sonnenfeld caught six passes for 113 yards. Jerise Washington (JR, Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS) caught three passes for 50 yards, and Adam Carl (SR, Eagan, Minn.) caught three passes for 40 yards.

Defensively, Juberian led the way for the Auggies with 10 tackles (five solo), including a sack, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Enrico Barrozo (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had nine tackles (three solo), and Chris DeVet (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Marques Townsend (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) had six tackles each. Bourne-McFarlane claimed two interceptions for the Auggies, while Andy Haataja (SO, Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) also had an interception.

For Concordia-Wisconsin, Garrett Wenzelburger caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Austin Damaschke in the second quarter, David Gonzalez kicked a 38-yard field goal, and LaCurt Evans rushed for an eight-yard touchdown.

Concordia's Damaschke rushed 14 times for 54 yards, while completing 21-of-33 passes for 188 yards. Evans rushed 12 times for 40 yards, Wenzelburger caught seven passes for 48 yards, and Cody Johnson caught five passes for 72 yards. Defensively, Joe Paul had 10 tackles (nine solo), a tackle-for-loss and a forced fumble, while Lane Lawson and John Palese had eight tackles each.
