Kornbaum posts career-high 30 points in victory over SMU

BOXSCORE WINONA, Minn. – Dan Kornbaum (SR, Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Augsburg College men's basketball team to 91-69 victory over Saint Mary's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at SMU Gym.

With the win, Augsburg moves to 18-7 overall (14-6 MIAC) and locks up the No. 3 seed in the MIAC playoffs where they will host Bethel University in a quarterfinal game. The Auggies have won five in a row and are 12-1 in home games this season and will look to keep that momentum going as they begin the MIAC playoffs.

Kornbaum finished with a double-double, posting 30 points and 10 rebounds on a 12-of-17 shooting afternoon from the floor in just 28 minutes of action. Kornbaum currently has 996 points in an Auggie uniform and 1,277 overall in his collegiate career (two seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and two at Augsburg).

Andy Seidlitz (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) also continued his recent hot streak, putting up 23 points, five rebounds and three assists, while shooting an impressive 9-of-11 from the floor. 15 different Auggies saw action in the contest and 12 factored into the scoring in the big win for the Auggies.

Saint Mary's (3-22 overall, 2-18 MIAC) finished with four players in double figures led by Evan Pederson, who finished with 15 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals.

For the game, Augsburg shot 62.7 percent (37-of-59) from the field, while Saint Mary's was held to just 46.3 percent (25-of-54) shooting. The Auggies posted a 37-22 advantage on the boards.

The Auggies return to action on Wednesday (2/20) when they host Bethel University in a MIAC quarterfinal playoff game at 7:30 p.m.. Should the Auggies prevail over the Royals, they would advance to the MIAC semifinals on Friday (2/28).
