Ashley Eliason (FY, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had nine saves in goal, but their Augsburg College women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, a 17-6 setback at Southwestern University on Friday night.
Rachel Frantz (FY, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS),
Shelby Brion (FY, Clearwater, Minn./Monticello HS) and
Shelby Franklin (FY, Chaska, Minn.) also scored goals for Augsburg (3-1 overall). Southwestern (3-1 overall) outshot Augsburg by a 34-19 margin in the game.
Kaitlyn Campbell scored six goals and added an assist for Southwestern, while Adrienne Dodd scored three goals and Natalie Rivera had two goals. Caitlyn Stanyard collected eight saves in goal for the Pirates.
Southwestern jumped out to a big lead, scoring the game's first 10 goals in the first 21:54 of play. Augsburg then scored the next three goals of the game, with Franklin, Brion and Fuechtmann scoring goals. Southwestern held an 11-3 lead at halftime.
Fuechtmann scored two goals in the second half for the Auggies, both on free-position shots, with Frantz adding the final Auggie goal of the game from Fuechtmann.
Southwestern held a 17-8 advantage in draw controls and claimed 12-of-20 on clearing attempts, compared to 12-for-27 for Augsburg.
Augsburg has its second game of its three-game trip to Texas tomorrow (3/1) at 1 p.m., facing Colorado College in a neutral-site game at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas.
