BOXSCORE ST. Paul, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team posted a dominant 102-52 victory over Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Leonard Center. With the win, the Auggies claim an important MIAC victory as they move to 14-7 overall (10-6 MIAC), while the Scots fall to 3-19 overall (2-15 MIAC).
The victory marks the first time this season the Auggies have eclipsed the century mark and the first time since a 106-87 win over Saint John's University on Feb. 4, 2013.
Andy Seidlitz (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and
Dan Kornbaum (SR, Little Falls, Minn.) both had big afternoons for the Auggies, teaming up to score a combined 53 points on 21-of-33 shooting. Kornbaum added 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season.
Fifteen different Auggies saw action in the contest and 12 factored into the scoring.
Macalester was led by Dylan Kilgour, who scored a team-high 17 points and three assists.
The Auggies started the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back. Augsburg extended its lead to double digits just three-and-a-half minutes into the action, leading by as many as 30 points in the frame before taking a 54-26 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
Augsburg continued to dominate in the second half leading by as many as 52 points before cruising on to the 102-52 victory.
Augsburg has now shot over 50 percent from the field on 14 occasions this season. The Auggies finished 56.5 percent (39-of-69) from the field, while the Scots connected on 35.1 percent (20-of-57) of their shots. Augsburg posted an impressive 43-28 advantage on the boards and dominated Macalester in points in the paint (50-24) and in points off turnovers (16-2).
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (2/12) at 7:30 p.m., when the Auggies host Hamline University.
