Auggies drop doubleheader at Concordia

BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 MINNEAPOLIS -- Tyler Beck (SR, Fairmont, Minn.) and Tanner Oakes (JR, Jordan, Minn.) each pitched complete-game efforts for Augsburg College, but the Auggies were beaten 4-2 in both games of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader by Concordia College-Moorhead on Friday afternoon at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.

Beck struck out three while walking four and allowing just four hits in 8.1 innings in the first-game, nine-inning 4-2 loss. Oakes struck out four while walking one and allowing eight hits in the second-game 4-2 loss.

Adam Carl (SR, Eagan, Minn.) went 3-for-6 with two RBI in the doubleheader for the Auggies, with a double in the second game. Rhett Hebig (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) went 3-for-7 in the doubleheader, with two hits in the first game. Julkowski went 2-for-4 for the Auggies in the first game.

Augsburg held a 2-1 lead after six innings in the first game. Gordon Kappers (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) drove home Andrew Julkowski (SO, Cedar, Minn./ST. Francis HS) on a single in the second inning, and Carl hit a run-scoring single to plate Julkowski in the sixth. But the Cobbers tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, and claimed the win on a two-run, walk-off home run by Tim Carlson in the ninth inning. Carlson drove in three of the four runs in the game for the Cobbers.

Ross Merriman struck out three while walking one in 7.2 innings of work for the Cobbers, with Bryce Feia picking up the win with 1.1 innings of relief work.

The Cobbers built a 4-0 lead after four innings in the second game, and three Concordia pitchers limited Augsburg to just five hits. Augsburg scored both of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Carl drove home Luke Chinn (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) on an RBI double, and Hebig drove home Carl on a single. Augsburg stranded nine runners on base in the second game, leaving the bases loaded in the fourth and leaving two runners on base in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Carlson had two hits for the Cobbers in the second game, and Michael Olson drove in two runs, including one on a fourth-inning triple.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Saturday (4/19) at 1 p.m., hosting St. Olaf in a doubleheader at Parade Stadium.
