Auggies end season with loss at Minnesota

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Andrew Douglas (FY, Eastvale, Calif./Roosevelt HS) and Billy Brookshaw (SO, Prescott, Wis.) had two hits apiece for Augsburg College, but the Division III Auggies dropped a 10-0 decision to the Division I University of Minnesota in the Auggies' season-ending baseball game on Tuesday evening at Siebert Field.

Augsburg (13-24 overall) was limited to seven hits in the game by Minnesota (23-19 overall), which had 14 hits in the contest. The Gophers broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning, sending 10 batters to the plate.

Douglas collected a single in the seventh inning for the Auggies, while hitting a double in the ninth inning. Brookshaw hit singles in the third and eighth innings. Gordon Kappers (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) hit a single in the first inning, Abe Welckle (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) hit a single in the fourth inning and Adam Carl (SR, Eagan, Minn.) hit a single in the eighth inning.

Matt Stemper went 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI for the Gophers, while Mark Tatera went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Dan Motl went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored, while Tony Skjefte went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. 

Pitchers Jordan Brandt (FY, Eagan, Minn.) and Ryan Minder (JR, Maplewood, Minn./Roseville HS) each had two strikeouts and no walks in their two innings each on the mound for the Auggies, two of four pitchers the Auggies used in the game. The Gophers also used four pitchers in the game, with Tyler Hanson, Matt Fiedler and Brian Glowicki collecting two strikeouts each.

The game was the final contest in an Auggie uniform for seniors Carl, Gary Mariscal (SR, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and Tyler Beck (SR, Fairmont, Minn.).
