Auggies net 10 placewinners at St. Cloud State Husky Open

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The Augsburg College wrestling team claimed 10 placewinners in competition at the St. Cloud State University Holiday Inn/Husky Open on Saturday at Halenbeck Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Top-ranked heavyweight Donny Longendyke (JR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) finished second in his weight class for the best individual finish by an Auggie on Saturday. Longendyke claimed two wins over University of Minnesota wrestlers, including a first-period pin, to reach the finals, but was pinned by St. Cloud State's Austin Goergen, the top-ranked heavyweight in the Division II national rankings, in the championship match. Now 10-2 on the season, the loss by pin was the first by Longendyke in his 119-match college career. He is now 94-25 in his collegiate career.
• Augsburg had three wrestlers place fourth in the meet. Aaron Wilson (FY, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) went 3-2 at 141 pounds to place fourth, claiming two pins and a technical fall in the process.
• Sebastian Larson (SO, River Falls, Wis.) placed fourth at 184, going 2-2 with a pin to improve to 10-3 on the season. Logan Hortop (JR, Faribault, Minn.) placed fourth at 197, going 2-2 with a technical fall and a major decision.
• Niko Anderson (FY, Lanesboro, Minn.) placed fifth at 184, going 3-2 with a pin to improve to 7-4 on the campaign.
• Five Auggies placed sixth at the tournament: No. 3-ranked Eric Hensel (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) at 165, James Goman (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Trinity-River Ridge HS) at 125, Alex Wilson (FY, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) at 149, Nikolaus Borchert (FY, McGrath, Minn./Isle HS) at 157 and Mitch Nelson (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) at 197.

• 157: Nikolaus Borchert 3-2, 6th place; Tone Fuenffinger 1-2; Grant Parker 0-2; Boone Young 0-2.
• 165: Eric Hensel 2-1, 6th place; Brady McFarland 1-2.
• 174: Ronny Ponick 2-2; Jackson Graham 1-2.
