Kennedy wins title at Cornell Matman Open

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- Rashad Kennedy (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) claimed the weight-class title at 149 pounds, one of eight placewinners for the Augsburg College wrestling team at the Cornell College Matman Open, held on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kennedy won five matches en route to his title at 149 pounds, including a 6-4, overtime (SV-1) win over defending 149-pound Division III national champion Kenny Martin of Wartburg (Iowa) in the semifinals, and a 7-5, overtime (SV-1) victory over Steven Garcia of Morningside (Iowa), ranked No. 10 in the NAIA national rankings, in the championship match. Kennedy is now 8-2 on the season.
• As a team, Augsburg finished fourth in the 16-team tournament with 75.5 points.
• Austin Boniface (JR, Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) finished second at 174 pounds, going 3-1 with a pin to improve to 13-7 on the season.
• Logan Hortop (JR, Faribault, Minn.) finished fourth at 197 pounds, going 2-2 with a major-decision win.
• Marcus Hamer (JR, Kimball, Minn.) and Grant Parker (JR, Onalaska, Wis.) placed sixth for the Auggies at 149 and 157, respectively.
• Jackson Graham (SO, Apple Valley, Minn.) placed seventh at 174, while Zach Ferguson (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) and Tone Fuenffinger (SO, Hibbing, Minn.) placed eighth at 125 and 157, respectively.
