Auggies score 3 titlists at UW-Eau Claire Open

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Claiming three individual titlists and 14 placewinners, the Augsburg College wrestling team competed at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Don Parker Open, held on Saturday at the McPhee Physical Education Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Top-ranked heavyweight Donny Longendyke (JR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS), No. 7-ranked 149-pounder Rashad Kennedy (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) and No. 10-ranked 165-pounder Eric Hensel (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) all won weight-class titles for Augsburg.
• Longendyke continued his domination of the heavyweight class in Division III, claiming two pins and a major decision en route to his fourth tournament victory of the season. He claimed a 2:36 pin of No. 9-ranked heavyweight Zachary Gibson of St. Olaf in the finals, his second pin of Gibson this season.
• Longendyke is now 30-2 on the season, including 18 pins and five major decisions. He is now 114-25 in his collegiate career, with 63 pins, three technical falls and 20 major decisions.
• Kennedy claimed five victories, including a technical fall and two major decisions, to win the title at 149, topping teammate Marcus Hamer (JR, Kimball, Minn.) in the finals. Kennedy is now 18-4 on the season with two technical falls and five major decisions.
• Hensel also scored five victories, including two sub-one-minute pins and a major decision, to win the crown at 165. He claimed a 34-second pin in his opening match and a 40-second pin of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Clark Doyle in the finals. Hensel is now 21-4 on the season with 14 pins and a major decision.
• Three Auggies placed second at the tournament -- 149-pounder Hamer, No. 10-ranked 133-pounder Sam Bennyhoff (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) and 184-pounder Sebastian Larson (SO, River Falls, Wis.). Hamer went 3-1 with two major decisions to improve to 22-12, while Bennyhoff went 3-1 with a pin to move to 22-5 and Larson went 3-1 with a major decision to 21-12.
• Placing third for the Auggies were James Goman (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Trinity-River Ridge HS) at 125, Grant Parker (JR, Onalaska, Wis.) at 157 and Jackson Graham (SO, Apple Valley, Minn.) at 174.
• Placing fourth were Aaron Wilson (FY, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) at 141 and Alex Wilson (FY, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) at 149, while Mitch Nelson (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) placed fifth at 197. Brady McFarland (FY, Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) earned consolation title honors at 165, as did Wyatt Richardson (FY, Grand Meadow, Wis.) at 197.
• In all, 27 Augsburg wrestlers combined for a 63-40 record on the day.

• 149: Rashad Kennedy 5-0, 1st place; Marcus Hamer 3-1, 2nd place; Alex Wilson 4-2, 4th place; Bryce Zdanovec 2-2.
• 157: Grant Parker 3-1, 3rd place; Tone Fuenffinger 1-2; Boone Young 0-2.
