Coplin and Carik score career-highs in victory over Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. -- Booker Coplin (JR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) and Matt Carik (SO, Rogers, Minn.) both scored career-highs to lead the Augsburg University men's basketball team to an 82-77 victory over the University of Redlands at Currier Gym on Saturday evening. With the win, Augsburg remains unbeaten on the young season, the second straight year the Auggies have won their first three contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• In an exciting game that saw six tied scores and 11 lead changes, the Auggies put together a key 9-2 run when the score was tied 69-69 with just 4:28 to play in the game. Augsburg was able to convert on 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 28 seconds to seal the victory.
• Coplin scored his Augsburg career-high 37 points by shooting an impressive 14-for-19 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Coplin added four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal to his stat line.
• Carik also had an outstanding shooting night, scoring a career-high 21 points, connecting on 7-of-8 from the field and 4-for-5 from three-point range, while adding four rebounds and three assists in a full 40 minutes of action.
• Also playing the full 40 minutes was Henry Mulligan (JR, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS), who finished with six points, while Kevin McKiernan (SR, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) added eight points and a pair of assists.
• For the game, Augsburg shot a season-best 56.0 percent (28-of-50) from the field, while Redlands connected on 47.5 percent (28-of-59) of its shot attempts. The Auggies connected on a season-best 84.2 percent (16-of-19) from the free throw line, while Redlands claimed a 33-24 advantage on the boards.

FOR THE FOES
• Redlands finished with three players in double figures, led by Joey Sponheim, who finished with 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field.
• David Menary and Gary Menary each added 10 points and seven rebounds for Redlands.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is idle over the next week and returns to action on Wednesday (11/28) hosting Carleton College in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener for both squads.
