WINONA, Minn. -- The Augsburg University men's basketball team put together a dominant shooting performance to top Saint Mary's University 88-56 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary's Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg jumped out to an 11-4 lead and never looked back. The Auggies used a run midway through the first half to extend their lead to 21-7 and closed the frame with a 10-3 run to take a 45-22 halftime advantage. Augsburg hit seven 3-pointers in the first half and then proceeded to shoot 10-of-15 from beyond the arc in the second half for a 17-of-33 three-point effort -- its eighth game this season connecting on 10 or more three-pointers.
• Augsburg was led by a career-high 22 points from
Matt Carik (SO, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS). Carik was 8-of-10 from the field and 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. He also led the Auggies on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds, while adding four assists, three steals and a pair of blocked shots.
• The Auggies had a balanced scoring effort, with five different players finishing in double figures. In total, 16 different Auggies saw action in the contest and 10 factored into the scoring.

Booker Coplin (JR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) scored 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting and added a career-best six steals, while
Kevin McKiernan (SR, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Henry Mulligan (JR, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) and
Martin Mitchell (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) added 10 points apiece.
• Augsburg put together its second-best shooting performance of the season, connecting on 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the field and 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from beyond the arc. The Auggies' 17 three-pointers nearly tied the single-game school record of 18, tied earlier this season against Minnesota Morris. Saint Mary's was held to just 33.3 percent (22-of-66) shooting from the field and 15.8 percent (3-of-19) from three-point range.
• Augsburg claimed a 40-35 advantage on the boards and a 16-0 advantage in fast-break points.
FOR THE FOES
• The Cardinals were led offensively by Nicolas Seaton, who scored 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting, adding a team-best seven rebounds in just 14 minutes of action.
• Eli Cave added 11 points and five rebounds for Saint Mary's.
