2019 CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT - FOOTBALL

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University linebacker Derek Glynn (SR, Lonsdale, Minn./Faribault HS) was named to the Academic All-District 6 Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced on Thursday.

An exercise science major with a 3,78 grade-point average, Glynn was one of three linebackers named to the 27-member academic elite squad, made up of top NCAA Division III football student-athletes from schools in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. It's the second straight year that Glynn has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.

Considered one of the best linebackers in the MIAC, Glynn enters the final game of his collegiate career with 105 tackles (40 solo) on the season, the lone Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player with more than 100 total tackles after nine games. He leads the MIAC in tackles per-game (11.7) and currently stands ninth nationally among NCAA Division III players in total tackles per-game.  Glynn has 2.5 tackles for-loss (12 yards), 1.0 sacks (6 yards), an interception, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery this season.

Glynn has recorded double-digit tackle totals in eight of his nine games this season, and 19 times in his 39-game career. Starting all but one game in his college career, Glynn now has 337 total tackles (134 solo), with 21.0 tackles for-loss (85 yards), 8.0 sacks (58 yards), one interception, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He also led the MIAC in total tackles in 2017, with 101, and stood fifth in total tackles in the conference in 2018, with 82.

Glynn earned All-MIAC second-team honors in 2018, All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors in 2017, and was an MIAC Athlete of the Week selection in 2018. He has also earned Academic All-MIAC honors in both 2018 and 2017.

Augsburg has had at least one football player earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors every year since 2006, and has had 25 honorees in Head Coach Frank Haege's 15-year tenure. Augsburg is 1-8 overall and 0-7 in MIAC play, and finishes its 2019 season on Saturday (11/16) at 1 p.m. with a game at Hamline University.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District team is part of the CoSIDA Academic All-America program. Top student-athletes from NCAA Division III programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are eligible for inclusion on the District 6 team, one of eight Division III districts nationwide. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

This is the ninth year of the expanded Academic All-America program, with separate teams comprising NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, along with a College Division team of NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members. 

The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the Division III Academic All-America teams program.
