Auggies top Mustangs 26-12

MINNEAPOLIS -- Claiming victories in six out of 10 bouts, including two pins and a technical fall, the No. 3-ranked Augsburg University men's wrestling team claimed a 26-12 dual meet victory over NCAA Division II opponent Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The No. 3-ranked team in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III national rankings, the Auggies claimed two pins and a technical fall in its six bout victories. 
• At 125 pounds, Augsburg's Justin Stauffacher (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn./Scott West) used a big four-point near-fall in the third period to post a 6-4 decision and improve his record to 7-2 on the season.
• At 133 pounds, No. 2 ranked Victor Gliva (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) improved to 8-0 on the season, claiming a second-period technical fall. He scored two 4-point near-falls in the first period in addition to three takedowns and a 2-point near-fall.
• At 149, No. 8-ranked Aaron Wilson (SR, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) improved to 9-0 with a 1:45 pin of Robert Shields.
• Top-ranked 165-pounder Ryan Epps (SR, Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls HS) claimed a 4:51 fall over Kevin Bostwick for the Auggies' second pin of the night.
• At 174, Nick Rogge (SO, Eastman, Wis./Prairie du Chien HS) remained undefeated on the season at 7-0, posting a 13-7 decision over Hayden Voxland. Rogge used a takedown, 4-point near-fall and a stalling call on Voxland to build a 5-0 first-period lead, and was able to add two takedowns in the second period.
• At 184, No. 2-ranked Tanner Vassar (SR, Maple Lake, Minn./Maple Lake HS) scored a takedown in the first period and added a reversal and 2-point near-fall in the second. He was able to ride out his opponent in the third period to get the riding-time point and post a 9-2 decision.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Against opponents from Divisions II and III, Augsburg is now 340-52-1 in dual meets since the 1989-90 season. Augsburg has lost just 48 matches to non-Division I opponents since the 1995-96 season.

FOR THE FOES
• Southwest Minnesota State gained four wins in the match, with Justin Sampson recording a 5-4 win at 141, Nathan Moore claiming a 6-1 win at 157, Jackson Ryan winning 5-2 at 197 and Andrew Petersen winning 4-3 at heavyweight.

• Augsburg returns to action on Dec. 29-30, traveling to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to take part in the Citrus Invitational.
