MINNEAPOLIS -- Setting the fifth-fastest time among NCAA Division III sprinters nationally in the 60-meter dash,
Jada Lewis (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Edison HS) led the Augsburg University women's track and field team in competition at the University of Minnesota Parents Day Open on Saturday at the U of M Fieldhouse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After setting a season-best 7.80-second sprint in the preliminaries, Lewis finished in a photo finish with Emilia Burris of Division II St. Cloud State in the finals, both with 7.72-second times. Digging deeper, Burris edged Lewis by six-thousandths of a second -- 7.713 to 7.719 -- to claim the event win. Lewis' 7.72-second time is the fastest among
Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sprinters this season by nine-hundredths of a second, and currently fifth-fastest
among all NCAA Division III sprinters nationally.
• Thrower
Kenna Bannister (JR, Lakefield, Minn./Jackson County Central HS) set another personal-best in the shot put finishing ninth with a 10.99-meter (36-feet-0.75) effort, good for a tie for 16th-best among MIAC throwers. Since the start of the season, Bannister has improved her best distance in the event by more than four feet, and has improved from her previous season's personal-best distance by 1-foot-4.5.
• Bannister did not record another personal best in the weight throw, but she did finish in an impressive seventh place in the unseeded competition with a 12.33-meter (40-feet-5.5) effort. Her personal-best distance of 13.74 meters (45-feet-1.0), set last week, is ninth-best among MIAC throwers, and an improvement of nearly eight feet from the start of the season, and an improvement of nearly seven feet from her previous season's personal-best distance.
• Two Auggie runners set personal-best times in the mile run --
Ann Sheely (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) finishing 23rd in 5:53.45, andÂ
Grace Hartman (SO, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) finishing 25th in 5:56.85.
